The "Marine Molecular Genetics Laboratory" mainly centers its task in the study of marine organisms in the channels Patagonico - Fueginos and of Antactica, by means of molecular techniques with the aim of investigating aspects related to philogeny, biogeography, structure of populations and fishing identification of stock among others. The work of this laboratory includes studies in different species from mammals mainly marine cetaceans and invertebrates like the yellow prawn and the spider crab of Magallanes.

The "Marine Molecular Genetics Laboratory" works altogether next to the Laboratory of Antartic See-resources of "Instituto Antártico Chileno" (INACH) and to the laboratory of molecular Genetics of the "Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero" (SAG) Regional, maximizing therefore the resources inverted in the region in the matter of equipment and specialized human capital.
