Research Line: Ecology of Marine Ecosystems

Jorge Acevedo is Marine Biology of the Arturo Prat University and obtained his professional title in 1999, developing his thesis on the Southern sea lion breeding in the North of Chile. In 2003 he joined as a researcher at CEQUA Foundation, and in 2006 he obtained his Masters of Sciences in the University of Magallanes, developing his thesis on distribution, fidelity, residence and population identity of humpback whales that feed in waters of the Magellan Strait, using the photo-identification techniques. His research area is the ecology and life history of marine mammals. He has done research in Antarctic fur seal, humpback whales and southern elephant seals, both in Antarctica and in Magallanes region, as well as a new nesting site for Black-browed albatross located within the Patagonian channels. Currently, continues studying humpback whales of Antarctic and Magellan waters, southern elephant seals and black-browed albatrosses. It has also been involved in studies of dwarf common minke whale and dolphins, especially coastal species such as Peale dolphins and Commerson´s dolphins.
