Characterized by its winding geography, the numerous channels and fiords conform that them constitute scenes of high scientific interest for national and foreign investigators, whom they look for to respond, from different perspective, the operation of these valuable systems and the implicancias that they can have in the human activities and the climatic change.
The Line of "Ecology Marine Ecosystems" of CEQUA has like primary target contributing with the knowledge of the marine ecosystems of fiords and austral channels from multiple approaches, being the main scopes of study the genetic diversity and conservation of the populations of birds and marine mammals, the interactions between toxic microalgaes and zooplancton next to oceanographic parameters associates, the bentonics communities of soft bottoms and their answer to the advance and glacial backward movement, and the optimization of the knowledge for the handling of marine invertebrates through molecular markers, which must like last aim fortify the knowledge of the marine biota of our XII Region, information that is of extreme importance to generate a platform of scientific knowledge that favors and sustains to the decision making in all the scopes of the regional task which they are related to the rational use and sharp of this incomparable natural laboratory that is the magellan marine ecosystem.
