Máximo Frangópulos
Investigation Line: Ecology Marine Ecosystems
Máximo is licensed in Biological Sciences of the University of Magallanes, rank that it received in 1995 and it obtained his doctorate in Biology in the University of Vigo, Spain in 2002. From the thesis of predegree that its scientific interest concentrated in the taxonomy and ecology of the phytoplankton, with special emphasis in the toxic species to injurious flowerings tie algals (red tides), area in which has developed most of its investigations, including its doctoral thesis, that turned in the ecological meaning of the toxin production on the part of the dinoflagelados ones. After to finish his doctoral, Máximo thesis it was gotten up to the group of Biological Oceanography of the CEQUA in 2002 where it focused his work in studying of integrated way biological oceanography, physical and chemical of fiord systems bordering to the Strait of Magellan. To count of February of 2008 and until June of 2009, it realises a postdoctoral stay in the University of Vigo, where it studies the trophic interactions between dinoflagelados heterotrophic and toxic microalgaes. At the moment one evolves in the group of ecology of marine ecosystems of the CEQUA and has to his position like main investigator project FONDECYT N°1089548 “Expansion of Alexandrium catenella in the south of Chile: invasion or delayed recognition of its real distribution” whose main objective is to analyze the dynamics of expansion in the south of Chile of A. catenella like an invading species, which would promote landlords differentiated in relation to its genetic variability, to the adaptive mechanisms and their toxic impact on the zooplanctónicas communities.
